Frequently asked questions about therapy

What can I expect from my first session?

Our first session is a chance to get to know each other. We’ll explore what brings you to therapy, what you hope to gain from it and any questions you might have. You can share as much as you feel comfortable with. It’s also an opportunity for you to get a sense of how I work and whether you feel comfortable continuing sessions together.

Do I need to prepare anything before we meet?

There’s no need to prepare anything or arrive with a clear explanation of what you’re experiencing. If it helps, you can think about what prompted you to reach out, but it’s equally okay to begin with “I’m not sure where to start.” We can find a starting point together.

How long does each session last?

Each session lasts 50 minutes. This gives us dedicated time to explore what’s happening and bring the session to a comfortable close for you.

How often would we meet?

We’ll discuss this together, taking into account your needs and circumstances. We could start off with weekly or biweekly sessions depending on your needs. These would offer consistency and help us build on our work, but we can consider a frequency that supports you and your schedule.

Can I attend sessions online or in person?

Yes, I offer both. In-person sessions take place at my clinic in Balzan. For online sessions, you’ll need a reliable internet connection and a quiet, private space where you can speak freely.

How much does a session cost?

Each session costs €50.

Will what I share remain confidential?

Confidentiality is central to our work. What you share is treated with care and respect. There are limits, including situations involving serious risk of harm or a legal requirement to disclose information. I also discuss aspects of my work in professional supervision, protecting your identity. We’ll go through confidentiality and its limits at the beginning so you understand what this means in practice.

How do I know Gestalt therapy is right for me?

Gestalt therapy may appeal to you if you want to understand your feelings, needs, relationships and familiar patterns more deeply. You don’t need to know much about the approach before starting. We can discuss it in our first session should you wish to know more about it.

How many sessions might I need?

There isn’t a fixed number. Some people come to explore a particular difficulty, while others want space for deeper or ongoing work. We’ll discuss what you hope for and regularly reflect on how therapy is going. You have a say in the pace and duration of our work.

What if I need to cancel or change my appointment?

Please let me know as early as possible, ideally at least 24 hours before your appointment. I send a reminder and confirmation message approximately 24 hours before we meet. Please reply to confirm your attendance, or let me know then if you need to cancel or reschedule.

Can I come to therapy even if I don’t have a specific problem?

Absolutely. You might want to understand yourself better, explore your relationships or have space to reflect on your life. You don’t need to be in crisis or have a clearly defined problem to come to therapy. Curiosity about yourself is a valid place to begin.
